Using a combination of social engineering, and malware, this guy was able to steal $230 million in #Bitcoin from an unsuspecting target in Washington.

Take this as a warning to protect your private keys. Don't give them to anyone under any circumstances. If possible, keep them on a hardware signing device. And if people start calling you claiming to be from Google, or an exchange you use, don't believe it.

I was talking about this last week when the news about Google's quantum computer was making the rounds. Research physicists who study the progress of quantum computers are now warning that we are 5-10 years away from commercial quantum computers that can break the encryption holding the blockchain together.

"We are about five years away from commercial quantum computers being able to break the elliptic curve keys that secure #Bitcoin wallets,” said Pierre-Luc Dallaire-Demers, a scientist-in-residence at the University of Calgary

This is real issue that we need to start addressing now. Because if the blockchain's encryption is no longer secure, the entire Bitcoin ecosystem is going to fail. Quantum resistance needs to be planned, and applied to the blockchain through a comprehensive update strategy. Such a strategy may hurt temporarily, but the alternative is to kiss Bitcoin goodbye.

I'm always delighted by just how fast and easy it is to buy #Bitcoin with Cash App. I just made my monthly purchase, and the bitcoin was credited to my account instantly, with no confirmations necessary. Transferring it out to my on-chain wallet took about 10min, which is pretty standard for priority transfers, and the whole process only cost me a few dollars (a few thousand sats).

Cash App requires KYC like most retail providers, but I confirmed my identity with them many years ago when I first setup the app, so it's nothing I have to deal with on a per-purchase basis.

I understand that many people don't want to go the KYC route, and I totally respect that mentality, but if you're OK with the KYC and identity confirmation, Cash App is a great option for buying and selling Bitcoin.

I did a test exchange using #StealthEX, converting some BTC to XMR. Apart from the fact that the #bitcoin portion of the exchange (where I sent BTC to the address provided) took 20 hours, the exchange went through smoothly and I ended up with the correct amount of XMR in my #Monero wallet.

The bitcoin confirmation took so long because it was a 5 sat/vB transaction. I think that's the standard set by the StealthEX app. I watched as my transaction kept getting bumped to later and later blocks until it finally crossed the finish line. Once that happened, the exchange was pretty much instantaneous. Next time, I'm going to try to increase the fee so it doesn't take literally all day.

Ultimately, StealthEX lived up to their promise, and I'll be using them again in the future.

I've been reading about this Google quantum computer, and how its unreal performance proves the existence of the multiverse. Apparently, it solved a particular math problem in 5 minutes, compared with the 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years it would take our fastest supercomputer to solve the same problem.

That's shockingly good performance. What I'd like to see now are some real-world applications. What does it look like when this quantum computer is tasked with mining Bitcoin? How long does it take to break AES-256?

These real-world tests would allow people to relate better than some abstract math problem. And I think it would light a fire under cryptographers, and motivate them to develop new quantum-resistant cyphers which will be absolutely essential if this sort of quantum processing is going to be the future of computing. Because right now, we're not prepared. #bitcoin

I move my lightning sats to my on-chain hot wallet when I reach a predetermined amount, and I move BTC from my hot wallet to cold storage when the hot wallet reaches a certain amount. There's a lot of great features, but the few drawbacks are significant. This is clearly a consumer wallet intended for the masses, and not the hard-core Bitcoiners. This is a wallet I would recommend without hesitation to new users, as well as iOS users, but probably not to more advanced users.
